The Hispanic Bar Association St. Louis has extended the deadline for participating in its mentoring program. The program is meant to benefit underserved law students actively involved in the Hispanic/Latinx community. The new deadline is February 23. Click for more details.

ISBA Rural Practice Fellowship Program

• Assistance identifying quality job placements in rural areas.
• The ISBA will screen potential employers and help place you in quality employment positions.
• Stipend to augment your salary. The ISBA will provide:
• $5,000 for summer clerks;
• Stipend of $10,000 for associates to be paid $5,000 at the beginning of the fellowship and $5,000 to be paid after the first year of the
fellowship.
• Interpersonal connections with and mentorship from experienced rural attorneys.
• You will participate in mentorship programs geared specifically to attorneys in rural practice.
• Connections to the rural community.
• You will be provided numerous opportunities to network and develop meaningful relationships with others in the rural legal and
business community, including introductions to a variety of rural clients and other business opportunities.
• Support for learning how to be an attorney in your first job.
• This program will provide CLE, training, and other resources for rural practitioners.

Don’t Miss Out | 2024 2L Summer Public Interest Program (SPIP) Information Session | Jan. 25

This Thursday, January 25 at 12PM in AB Hall 309, we are hosting an informational session for 2L students who will apply for funding through the Summer Public Interest Program.

The Summer Public Interest Program (SPIP) is part of WashULaw’s commitment to supporting students pursuing careers in the public sector. This program provides financial support to students who would otherwise be unable to work in unpaid public sector summer internships. The application for 2L candidates is open now and closes on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

An eligible position is one in which you are:

  • Working for the public interest in a legal, policy, legislative, or advocacy setting under legal supervision, and in a position where at least one year of law school is required; or
  • Working for a non-profit organization, government office, or in a judicial externship/internship program; and
  • Working in a position where you are not receiving payment intended to compensate you for work performed during the internship, whether from your place of employment or an outside funder.

Shook Hardy – 1L Shook Scholars Institute | Info Session [1.24] + Application Deadline [1.31]

Shook is excited to host a select group of first-year law students at the Shook Scholars Institute in Kansas City, Missouri, on April 3–5, 2024. The Shook Scholars Institute is an innovative, three-day diversity and inclusion-focused development program concentrated on litigation and trial skills, leadership, and career success competencies. Student travel, lodging, and meals will be provided by Shook.

Shook is hosting an info session about the Scholars Program via Zoom on Wednesday, January 24th at 6 pm CST, to help answer any questions about the program and provide more details, etc.  Students can RSVP to mmontenegro@shb.com to receive the Zoom link.

Eligibility Requirements and Selection Criteria
The application process is open to all first-year law students enrolled full-time and in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school. A selection committee will evaluate all applications, considering the criteria below:
• Demonstrated academic performance and leadership achievements.
• Significant personal achievements and strong community involvement.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion and equity in the legal profession and/or community.
• Sincere interest in practicing at a top civil litigation firm.

Program Overview

Established in 2014, the PracticePro 1L Diversity Scholar Program (DSP) is a coaching, training, and recruiting program designed to help law students secure their dream employment while simultaneously preparing them with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and savvy they need to flourish in their legal positions and advance in corporate leadership roles.

Program Components & Benefits

Students admitted into the program can take advantage of the following DSP benefits:

  • Free tuition to attend a PracticePro Career Conference (Spring 2024)
  • Participation in exclusive recruiting receptions and resume collection (Spring/Summer 2024)
  • Career coaching package, including full revision of application materials and networking emails, 1:1 customized strategy sessions, and email coaching (April – September 2024)
  • Pre-OCI and summer associate training webinars on topics covering resumes and cover letters, advanced interviewing techniques, networking, assessing firms, and more (Spring & Summer 2024)
  • Recommendations for employment and scholarships to our firm partners
  • Mentorship match to in-house corporate counsel to learn client collaboration and business development (after bar admission)

Eligibility

(1) First-year law student (Class of 2026) enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school; and

(2) A personal background that contributes to the diversity of the legal profession, including but not limited to gender, racial, or ethnic groups historically underrepresented in the legal profession, the LGBTQ+ community, those with a disability, socioeconomic need, military experience, first-generation educational status, or other considerable hardships or challenges; and (3) A strong commitment to increasing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the legal profession.

  • We are aware that grades may not be released until after the January application deadline. Paul, Weiss is building its brand-new Century City office and is searching for superstar 2L candidates to join its 2024 Summer Program. This is a unique opportunity for any law student who wants to do the best deals for the best clients from the West Coast. Associates will work within the finance group, on a wide range of financings, representing private equity firms, portfolio companies and corporate borrowers in the financing aspects of leveraged buyouts and other complex transactions. The role will involve immediate client exposure and interaction, with a close working relationship between partners, associates and summer associates in a collegial environment.
