Not only did you have an interview, but also it went so well you got a callback. Excellent news! A lot of students are so focused on the first interview that the callback and navigating the steps that follow are a little less polished. But do not worry. The Career Center has a lot of advice and tangible steps you can take as you make your way towards an offer that you want to take.
What is a Callback?
A callback is a very good sign, but isn’t a guarantee of an offer. After an initial interview, many legal employers will invite candidates to interview further virtually or at their offices. These callbacks require preparation. For detailed responses to many common questions like what to wear and interview format, the Career Center has prepared the Interview Guide to give you insight. Read our advice that starts on page 17, and be sure to practice common interview questions, too.
Communication Before and After
The communication touchpoints that happen after an initial interview and following it, as well how you respond to a callback request and setting up that interview, are all essential. They are so essential it would be best to consider them to be an extension of the interview itself. Starting on page 32 of the Interview Guide, is guidance on how to address each of these as well as how to express timely thanks for the time being invested in getting to know you and learn about your capabilities.
More than One Offer
Juggling multiple offers for some can be very stressful. On one hand, you are super excited, you can’t believe it. And then you realize that you are going to have to decline all but one, then maybe a little guilt sets in. You are not alone, and the Career Center can help you weigh out what is best for you, keeping in mind factors like: short term and long term goals, work product at the end of the summer, geographic location, networking opportunities, and more.
We can also help you with the timing of the offers and whether it’s appropriate to ask for extensions.
