Compared to other industries, the legal field is not known for pioneering the use of new technologies; however, the digital age is here, and knowing how law firms assess and incorporate new technology into their traditional practices is of growing importance. Hiring managers are looking for digital lawyers, explains Dan Reed in his post, Legal Tech Can Differentiate Young Lawyers at Law Firm Interviews. Read the top three pieces of advice provided in his article.
- Be Prepared
In interviews, the topic of technology in the law may come up. Be prepared to distinguish yourself by showing that you have thought about the issues arising from the adoption of new technologies in the legal field. Law firms assess new technology using a cost-benefit analysis, a risk analysis, and a client service and marketing analysis.
- Be Dedicated
Showcase your dedication to being and remaining technology savvy. As firms strive to increase profits and reduce expense, they are looking for associates who are technologically self-sufficient and capable of incorporating new technologies into their traditional processes.
- Be Curious
Remember, an interview goes both ways. You want to work at a firm that embraces technology in innovative, yet productive ways. If the interviewer has not initiated the topic of technology, consider asking about how the firm incorporates new technologies into its legal practice. This shows your awareness that the industry is evolving.
