EMPLOYER SHOWCASE FOLLOW UP: KEEP THE MOMENTUM
The Virtual Employer Showcase was a great success! Thank you for attending. Maybe you were able to see every employer you pre-selected. Maybe you didn’t. There’s one essential thing you can do in either circumstance: write the employer.
THANK THE EMPLOYERS YOU MET WITH
Within the next two days, make sure you express your gratitude to the employers you spoke with. How? One essential way: WRITE THANK YOUS. Your thank you email can be just a few sentences long:
- Thank them for their time.
- Mention something memorable you discussed.
- Include a sentence about the future and your plans. “I will be applying to your firm after speaking with you,” etc.
REACH OUT TO EMPLOYERS YOU WERE UNABLE TO MEET
If you didn’t get to see one of your top employers, that’s okay. You can still write them.
- Express that you wanted to see them, but were unable to (do not mention the employers you prioritized over them).
- Mention why you are interested in them.
- Ask for a five-minute informational meeting.
- Thank them for their time.
Looking for an example? Check out the Virtual Showcase Guide. Need the email address of someone you met or would like to connect with? Check the spreadsheet here.

All Classes: Get Ready for the Employer Showcase | 1.12.21
The 2021 Employer Showcase 1.12.21, open to 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls. This event is not just WashULaw’s largest virtual networking event, but it is also your best opportunity to make new professional connections and to learn more about employers and practice areas in a short period of time.
The virtual format will mean you get to select who you meet in advance. Thursday, January 7th at 10:00 am CT, you may select up to nine employers to meet with during the Employer Showcase.
Each employer session will last ten minutes and may include up to four of your peers. At the end of each ten minute session, you will receive a link to join your next meeting.
Maximize this opportunity: use all 9 slots allotted to you and think broadly. Reserve one or two of your selections for employers outside of your current target areas.
You should have received an email with more details and links to practice using our new networking software. The full content of the email is included below for your reference.
The 2021 Virtual Employer Showcase will take place next Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm CST. For this year’s virtual format, we have partnered with Flo Recruit to assist us in maximizing this event. This email will summarize the important information you need to know before registration opens on Thursday. It is important that you read the entirety of this email.
The Employers:
The current list of participating employers can be found here. Each employer has selected the class years (i.e., 1Ls, 2Ls and/or 3Ls) they would like to meet during the event. Take a few minutes to review the list and select the employers you would like to meet. Additional employers may be added, so be sure to check back periodically for additional opportunities.
The Structure:
The Virtual Employer Showcase will run for 90 minutes, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm CST, and will be broken into nine, 10-minute time slots. Up to five students are permitted to register for each 10-minute time slot. The flow of the event will allow students to visit up to 9 employers during the Showcase. The new virtual format enables you to select who you meet in advance. Unlike our prior networking events, there is no ability for students to “drop in” to an employer’s room, so preparation is key.
Prior to student registration opening, make a list of your top 25 employers and be prepared to log in once registration opens in order to secure a spot with your top choices. Think broadly. Consider using one or two of your slots to meet with employers that are outside of your targets in order to learn about opportunities and employers that you might not otherwise have considered.
While we do not anticipate that students will have trouble securing a 10-minute session with their top employers, there is a limited number of slots. If you had your heart set on an employer that is full, email us at lawcareers@wustl.edu to be put on an alternate list in the event of cancellations.
Registering for the Showcase:
Registration Opens: Thursday, January 7 @ 10:00 am CST
Registration Closes: Sunday, January 10 @ 10:00 pm CTS
On Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 10:00 am CST, you will receive an email from “Washington University Law Career Center washulaw@floevents.email” allowing you to access Flo Recruit and select up to 9 time slots with 9 different employers. Registration on the website is intuitive, but if you have questions, you can reach out to us at lawcareers@wustl.edu. After you have registered, you will receive an email confirmation with your schedule. You may make changes to your schedule until registration closes.
Technical Requirements:
Prior to the event, test your camera and microphone here. It is strongly recommended that you participate in Employer Showcase using Google Chrome, as not all internet browsers support FloRecruit. Finally, prior to entering the Showcase, log out of any VPNs and programs that use your camera or microphone (including Zoom, Skype, Teams, etc.).
Accessing and Navigating the Event:
24 hours prior to the Showcase, you will receive an email with your final schedule, along with the link to access your sessions. (You will only need one link.) A pop up button will appear near the end of each session that you will click to move to your next scheduled session. Students must attend all sessions for which they are registered.
Please reach out with questions.
