If you’ve ever had an inclination of working for the federal government, on Capitol Hill, or in the DC non-profit world, then a DC externship is for you. There are dozens of opportunities to work in federal agencies, with a Congressman/woman, or in an organization. Below I talk about ways to get more info on the opportunity, but before that, what are some of the benefits?

(1) An opportunity to network with supervisors and career staff that can later assist in obtaining a post-grad position and help with the application process

(2) Tangible work experiences that will boost your resume and enhance your skill set as you apply for jobs in each sector

(3) Access to government processes, events, and forums such as the Capitol, the White House, and the Supreme Court

(4) A program supervisor (Susan Kaplan) with connections to people in numerous areas, including law firms

(5) Time to explore DC as a potential market

(6) A semester free of classes and full of time to enjoy the city and vibrant scene of young professionals

For more information, attend an info session on out-of-town externships on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 12pm in Room 305 and a Peer Chat with upperclassmen Earl Flood (Sen. Claire McCaskill), Kevin Hirst (DOJ), and Sharion Scott (Advancement Project) about DC in particular on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 12pm location TBD.
