The Public Interest Law Initiative presents Explore the Possibilities: Public Interest Law Opportunities Program this Saturday, October 1st from 10am – 1pm over Zoom (free; registration required).
This event is geared towards all law students with an interest in public service, however, it is particularly helpful to 1Ls who are quite literally exploring the possibilities and learning about potential career paths! This awesome event occurs annually and receives great reviews from students year after year.
The Explore the Possibilities: Public Interest Law Opportunities Program will include panelists from many Illinois and St. Louis public interest/legal aid agencies, including ACLU of Illinois, Arch City Defenders, Ascend Justice, Beyond Legal Aid, Center for Conflict Resolution, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, Federal Defender, Land of Lincoln Legal Aid, Legal Aid Chicago, Legal Aid Society, Legal Council for Health Justice, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, National Immigrant Justice Center as well as government agencies including the Illinois Attorney General, Cook County State’s Attorney Office, Department of Justice, and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission!!

Student registration for this year’s virtual event is now open. The event will require a single registration. The base registration fee for both the conference and career fair portions of the event will be $25.00 (this is a non-refundable fee). Note: WashULaw will cover registration costs for those who attend the event. For details, please contact Alison Smith at smith.alison@wustl.edu.
As a reminder, the Equal Justice Works Conference will take place on Wednesday, September 21 – Friday, September 23, and the Equal Justice Works Career Fair will be held on October 20-22.

Students must apply for prescheduled interviews by Thursday, September 15 at 6 p.m. ET. Employers will then have until Wednesday, September 28 to submit their interview selections. Please note: It may take several hours before your event registration is confirmed and you are able to view and apply for available positions. Please do not wait until September 15 to register for the event if you intend to participate in the prescheduled interview process.
Prescheduled Interview Sign-Up Begins
Students will have been notified of their prescheduled interview status (unless otherwise contacted) and will be able to sign up for specific interview times beginning on Thursday, September 29. Interview times must be finalized by Wednesday, October 12 at 6 p.m. ET. All interview times on the career fair database will be listed in ET.
Career Fair Registration Deadline
Event registration for the career fair will close on Thursday, October 13 at 6 p.m. ET for those students interested in participating in informal, one-on-one “table talk” discussions with employers.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 8 office in Denver, CO, employs approximately 500 staff who work to protect human health and the environment in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming and 28 sovereign tribal nations. The Office of Regional Counsel provides legal
representation to all divisions of EPA Region 8.
The Legal Counseling and FOIA Branch advises Region 8 on legal and policy matters and interpretation of the major environmental statutes, including representing the region in citizen suits and defensive litigation. It also provides legal counsel and coordination on Indian law matters, ethics, and employment law.
The Legal Enforcement Branch represents Region 8 in civil and criminal environmental enforcement matters under the major environmental statutes
against regulated entities and responsible parties at sites and facilities within the jurisdiction of Region 8.
LEGAL INTERNSHIPS
ORC offers a spring, summer, and fall full-time legal internship program, which provides law students a diverse range of substantive legal work, the ability to work with and learn from highly skilled, dedicated, and collegial attorneys, and significant feedback and mentoring to enhance student growth.
HONORS AND GENERAL ATTORNEYS
ORC offers an Honors Attorney Fellowship Program for recent law school graduates with excellent academic credentials and a strong interest in an environmental law career. The Honors Attorney Fellowship is a temporary two-year position, offered
every even year beginning January 2022. Each Honors Attorney Fellow is expected to commit to the full two-year term.
ORC occasionally advertises to backfill one of its 43 plus General Attorney positions practicing under a variety of environmental statutes.
