Quick Turnaround! 2023 Justice John Paul Stevens Fellowships Announcement of Application Process for Fellowships at Nonprofits | Deadline 11.6
WashU Law is one of a select group of law schools who are able to participate in the Justice John Paul Stevens Foundation Nonprofit Fellowship program – take advantage! This year, there are four participating non-profits – Brady Campaign, Capital Appeals Project (New Orleans), Northern California Innocence Project, and Region Public Defender for Capital Cases (TX). If selected as a fellow, students will receive a $6k award and join the prestigious cohort of Justice John Paul Stevens Fellows working in public interest placements across the country.
Applications are open and will close on November 6th. Note that the application does require a targeted essay, so don’t wait to get started!
The John Paul Stevens Foundation is delighted to announce the second year of Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowships to support four law students doing summer internships focused on substantive issues that were of great importance to Justice Stevens. The Foundation is opening an opportunity for law students from 25 law schools to apply for a Stevens Fellowship at the following four organizations:
• Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence (Washington DC)
• Capital Appeals Project (Louisiana)
• Northern California Innocence Project (California)
• Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases (Texas)
There will be one Stevens Fellow selected for each of these organizations. Each Fellow will receive a $6,000 stipend for the summer. The stipend cannot be combined with other funding from the student’s law school; it can be combined with other sources of summer funding external
to the law school. Please see more information about the organizations and internships in the final pages of this announcement. To be eligible to apply for these 2022 Stevens Fellowships, law students must be attending one of the 25 law schools listed on the next page.
These four Fellows will join a national cohort of over 150 Stevens Fellows selected by their law schools and working in public interest placements around the country during the summer of All Stevens Fellows receive access to an online summer public interest “kick-off” event, periodic trainings, and a national cohort of over 700 alumni Stevens Fellows, 74% of whom are working in public interest legal careers.

Save The Date: 35th Annual Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference (MPILCC)
MPILCC, the largest Midwest job fair for public interest law students is sponsored by the Chicago Area Law School Consortium and will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The 2023 conference will be held in an entirely virtual format.

On November 1, the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) opened applications for 2L Summer Interns! PILI’s Law Student Internship Program connects law students with 30 public interest agencies across Illinois. In 2023, PILI Interns will receive $6,200 for full-time summer work. Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01) is seeking paid congressional interns to join a dynamic team intent on doing the most for everyone in St. Louis, starting with those who have the very least. We are currently seeking a Legislative, District Office, and Communications/Digital interns.
The Legislative and District Interns will have the opportunity to serve in a wide range of capacities. You will provide support for particular projects on the respective team you are hired to support, as well as collaborative standard intern duties including but not limited to: assistance with overall day-to-day operations, writing correspondence, handling mail, managing phone calls, and assisting with special projects. The Press/Digital intern will draft social media posts for the Member’s official social media pages (including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), assist with press clips and news briefings, design graphics, create videos, and pitch ideas. The intern will be an integral part of the communications team, generating engaging content for the Member and supplying creative ideas throughout the week.
