SAVE THE DATE | Virtual 1L Summer Public Interest Program Information Session
Join Assistant Director of Clerkships and Public Interest Merce’de Savala on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 1PM CST as she hosts a virtual informational session via Zoom for 1L students who will be applying for the 1L Summer Public Interest Program.
The 1L Summer Public Interest Program (1L SPIP) is part of WashULaw’s commitment to supporting our students who choose to pursue careers in the public sector. This program provides financial support to students who would otherwise be unable to work in unpaid public sector internships over the summer. Through 1L SPIP, WashULaw offers funding of up to $3,000 (less taxes) for 1L students who work full-time in eligible positions for a minimum of six weeks (roughly 240 hours). The 1L SPIP application opens on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024.
An eligible position is one in which you are:
- Working for the public interest in a legal, policy, legislative, or advocacy setting under legal supervision, and in a position where at least one year of law school is required; and
- Working for a non-profit organization, government office, or in a judicial externship/internship program; and
- Working in a position where you are not receiving payment intended to compensate you for work performed during the internship, whether from your place of employment or outside funding.
All first-year students who are considering applying to public sector jobs or judicial internships are encouraged to attend. RSVP on Symplicity.
