2018 Non-Profit, Government, and Public Interest Firm Week
We are excited to announce the 2018 Non-Profit, Government, and Public Interest Firm Week line-up! With a robust list of national and local employers visiting campus to speak with students, panels on fellowships, DOJ Honors, and other coveted post-grad positions, tips for success in the public sector from students, employers, and CCD attorneys, and public interest-focused mock interviews, we have fantastic information to share with any and all students who have a commitment to public service. Keep an eye on the list of participating employers, which will be updated regularly.
Monday (2/12): Mock Interviews for the Public Sector
Do you know the art of the public interest/government interview? Are you confident that you can make clear and compelling connections between your experience and the mission of a public interest/government employer? Even if you’ve recently interviewed (mock or real), consider scheduling a mock interview with CCD during Non-Profit, Government, and Public Interest Firm week. Our strategists will share employer perspectives and critical tips with you to ensure you don’t miss the mark when the real interview comes along!
Monday (2/12): Fellowships, DOJ Honors, and More!
@12 pm: At noon, join a panel of attorneys who pursued EJW and Skadden Fellowships for tips and helpful insights!
@4 pm: Then hear from fellow students who have secured an EJW Fellowship, JAG, and a spot in the DOJ Honors program. Both panels will highlight deadlines for these incredible opportunities, which are always on the early side.
Tuesday (2/13):
@12 pm: A student panel will join CCD strategists (and former public interest attorneys) Jim Guest, Mahrya Fulfer-Page, and Ari Moore to offer comprehensive insight into how to get the most out of your work experience and make a great impression. We’ll also discuss how to make connections in your target geographic markets. This will be an interactive discussion, so bring questions!
@12 pm: Join CCD in welcoming Judge Ben Burton (Federal Administrative Law Judge with the Office of Hearings Operations within the Social Security Administration) to St. Louis, as he discusses Disability Law, the Federal Administrative Law process, and the rigors of maintaining a heavy docket. Judge Burton will also be on hand to field any questions you may have.
Wednesday (2/14):
@12 pm: Join 3Ls Sharion Scott (Advancement Project), Earl Flood (Claire McCaskill), and Kevin Hirst (DOJ) to talk about externship opportunities in DC as well as finding jobs in DC and on the Hill generally!
@12 pm: Join Sarah Johnson, Director of Juvenile Defense and Policy at the Missouri Public Defender (St. Louis City) to talk about juvenile justice and why it matters.
Thursday (2/15): Small Group Discussions and Employer Forum
@12 pm: Opt in to meaningful discussions with representatives from the ACLU, CAIR, Southern Poverty Law Center, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the California Appellate Project. These renowned public interest and government attorneys will share their experiences in small and candid settings – ask questions!
