Join attorneys from the Illinois State Bar representing the International and Immigration Section on Monday, April 2, 2018. Monday’s panel of attorney’s will offer career advice in the fields of international or immigration law. This group has also been active in reforming the statutes in Illinois to comply with International treaties ensuring consular rights to individuals charged with crimes, as well as, requiring that Illinois judges admonish defendants that pleading guilty may impact their immigration status. I think your students might find these topics interesting in the current political climate in the U.S.
Panelist: Lewis Matuszewich, Michelle Rozovics, Cindy Buys and David Aubrey
Lewis and Michelle both have international transactional law firms in the greater Chicago area. Additionally, Michelle is the acting chair for the ISBA group and Lewis is the editor of our group’s publication, The Globe. Cindy is acting associate dean and a professor at Southern Illinois University and has worked with council to successfully bring Illinois’s statutes in compliance with international treaties. David solely advocates for victims of mesothelioma by deposing and serving discovery on corporations that sold or manufactured asbestos. David’s work requires using foreign discovery tools, such as the Hague Conventions on discovery.
