Every semester, all students (1Ls, 2Ls and 3Ls) should obtain a copy of their official transcript after grades are released. Students can order an official transcript through Webstac or through the Office of the University Registrar. Below you will find answers to common transcript questions:
When should I order my official transcript? You should order your transcript once you have received all of your 2021 fall semester grades and your cumulative GPA has been calculated in Webstac. If you believe your semester GPA qualifies you for Dean’s List and you want that designation to show on your transcript, you will need to wait until you receive an email from Dean Walsh confirming when the Dean’s List designation will be added to your transcript.
What is the cost? A copy of your official transcript only costs $10. You will only need to purchase one time per semester.
What should I apply with before I can order my official transcript? At this time, all 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls should be applying with their official transcripts. Looking ahead, as you begin to apply following the end of the spring 2022 semester, rising 2Ls, 3Ls, and new graduates should apply with a copy of their official transcript that is current through the end of the 2021 fall semester, plus the grade sheet addendum in the form found here. You will need to update the grade sheet addendum with your spring 2022 courses and your anticipated fall 2022 courses. You can update your spring 2022 grades as they are released, but you may not self-calculate your spring 2022 semester GPA or your cumulative GPA. You may only indicate your spring 2022 semester GPA and your cumulative GPA on your grade sheet and resume when it has been updated in Webstac (and at which point you should order a new official transcript).
I am a transfer student; do I need to submit my 1L transcript? Yes. When asked to provide a transcript, transfer students should provide a copy of their official transcript for the 1L year from their 1L school and a copy of their official transcript from WashULaw.
The position I am applying for only requires an unofficial transcript. Should I submit my Webstac unofficial transcript? No. Submit a .pdf copy of your official transcript. Let’s get down in the weeds for a moment. Technically, a transcript is only an official transcript when sent directly from Parchment (the transcript vendor) to the employer recipient. This means that when you forward your .pdf transcript to an employer, it becomes an unofficial transcript. When employers ask applicants to submit their official transcripts, they do not expect (or want) you to order a new transcript through Parchment to be sent directly to them. They expect you to submit a .pdf copy of your official transcript. Bottom line: Unless an employer specifically asks for an official transcript sent to them directly from the university, submit a .pdf of your official transcript for positions that request an official or unofficial transcript.
My official transcript includes a cover page saying that it is not permissible to replicate or forward the document. What should I do? You can disregard this instruction. It is also permissible to delete the “How to Authenticate This Official Transcript” cover page prior to sending your transcript. This should solve any error that you receive when uploading to Symplicity as well.
When I bid with my official transcript, the text on the transcript becomes jumbled. How do I fix this? Before uploading your official transcript to Symplicity, print your official transcript to .pdf. This will eliminate any encryption that may cause the information to be unreadable. To print to .pdf, open your transcript, select file, print, and in the printer options, look for an option called “print to PDF” or “PDF creator”. If you have trouble, the Career Center can help you with this.
When should I use the Webstac unofficial transcript? There should not be an occasion to use the Webstac unofficial transcript. You will always apply with a copy of your official transcript (supplemented with a grade sheet addendum if you are waiting on grades). The Webstac unofficial transcript includes information that is not typically provided during the application process. If you feel you need to use your Webstac unofficial transcript for an application, please reach out to the Office of Student Life or the Career Center for guidance.
