A deep commitment to diversity and inclusion is a core value at Arnold & Porter. As part of our commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, we award $10,000 scholarships to highly qualified first-year law students. Each scholarship is paid directly to a recipient’s law school to help finance tuition costs for the second academic year.
Criteria
Qualified applicants are currently enrolled, first-year law students at ABA-accredited law schools who:
● Contribute to the diverse background of a law school’s student body
● Demonstrate strong academic achievement
● Demonstrate an interest in promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession
While the Firm may also take into account a student’s need for financial assistance, such need is not required.
Procedure
Applicants must submit a current resume, official law school transcript, and a personal statement (limited to 500 words) that describes the role of diversity in their personal background; their views on the intersections of diversity, inclusion, and equity; and/or how they have demonstrated a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
An applicant may also submit a separate statement (limited to 500 words) demonstrating a financial need for a scholarship, but such statement is not required because need is not an official criterion for this merit-based award.
