It’s Never Too Late or Too Early For An Informational Meeting | Set One Up Today!
As a fresh new 1L, or a seasoned 2L or 3L, setting up an informational meeting is a fantastic, low-pressure, way for an attorney to pass on any advice or wisdom about the legal field or their practice area. Right now, you are uniquely positioned to ask questions of everyone around you, and setting up an informational meeting with a practicing attorney is a great place to start. In general, attorneys cannot offer you a job on the spot, and this is not the time to ask for a job, but you should put your best foot forward and you can make it clear that you are interested in their geographic location or firm. The goal of your meeting is to gain a deeper understanding of the legal market in your desired location and narrow down which practice area(s) you want to pursue. Let us help you put your best foot forward! You can find an Informational Meeting Guide on the intranet (along with several other useful guides!) and make an appointment to discuss how to set up an informational meeting and what to ask during your quick, 15-20 minute, conversation with the attorney!

Class of 2025 – Apply, Connect, Prepare!
As we kick off September, keep your 2L summer job search going strong! There are jobs out there across geographic locations, practice areas, and employer types – it is the time to seize these opportunities. Follow the tips below for success in the job search:
- Apply! Continue to put out new applications, taking a broad approach. We are seeing new positions posted each day in OCI, on the Symplicity Job Board, and across job search websites (PSJD, USAJobs, LinkedIN, etc.). Keep pushing out applications until you have an offer in hand.
- Connect! One of the best parts of WashULaw is the incredible alumni network. Let us help you tap into this resource. Meet with a Career Center strategist for targeted alumni suggestions, tips on outreach, and pointers for strategic informational meetings.
- Prepare! You never know when you will receive the invite for an interview – be prepared! Meet with a strategist for a mock interview, review the Career Center’s interview guide, and run your personal pitch by our Peer Career Advisors so that you are confident and ready to take on the interviews.
