The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 8 office in Denver, CO, employs approximately 500 staff who work to protect human health and the environment in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming and 28 sovereign tribal nations. The Office of Regional Counsel provides legal representation to all divisions of EPA Region 8.

The Legal Counseling and FOIA Branch advises Region 8 on legal and policy matters and interpretation of the major environmental statutes, including representing the region in citizen suits and defensive litigation. It also provides legal counsel and coordination on Indian law matters, ethics, and employment law.

The Legal Enforcement Branch represents Region 8 in civil and criminal environmental enforcement matters under the major environmental statutes against regulated entities and responsible parties at sites and facilities within the jurisdiction of Region 8.

LEGAL INTERNSHIPS
ORC offers a spring, summer, and fall full-time legal internship program, which provides law students a diverse range of substantive legal work, the ability to work with and learn from highly skilled, dedicated, and collegial attorneys, and significant feedback and mentoring to enhance student growth.

HONORS AND GENERAL ATTORNEYS
ORC offers an Honors Attorney Fellowship Program for recent law school graduates with excellent academic credentials and a strong interest in an environmental law career. The Honors Attorney Fellowship is a temporary two-year position, offered every even year beginning January 2022. Each Honors Attorney Fellow is expected to commit to the full two-year term.

ORC occasionally advertises to backfill one of its 43 plus General Attorney positions practicing under a variety of environmental statutes.
