I have been selected as an ALTERNATE, what does that mean? What should I do?

First, congratulations! Being an alternate is still a great thing :). An alternate means that the employer has selected you to interview, should a pre-selected student decline to interview. Should an interview slot open, you will receive a direct email alerting you that you have been selected to move to the interview schedule (this is done in the order that the employer provided). What you should not do – contact the employer to further express interest. Remember, the employer has reviewed your materials and selected YOU to be an alternate. The employer is aware of your interest.

I received an invitation to interview but, I am waiting to see if I get any more. Should I sign-up or wait?

If you have an outstanding interview invitation, please adhere to the sign-up deadline. This ensures that the program timeline runs smoothly and allows all students the opportunities afforded to them. If you wait to sign-up, the available time slots become minimal and may not work with your schedule.

What if I accept an offer before my scheduled OCI Interview?

You can cancel any on-campus interview 48 hours prior to the interview date. This is done to cut down on employers having incorrect schedules on the day of the interview. If you have an circumstance that comes up within 24hrs, please alert Tanya ASAP. If you are on the fence about an interview, it’s always best to talk it through early.

Where do I find the interview link and my interviewer name?

Employers will update this information in Symplicity on a rolling basis, sometimes even the day before an interview. Check frequently to be prepared. Start a spreadsheet to keep this information in one place for easy access.

Is there any flexibility on my OCI interview date?

No. The interview dates for formal interview programs are decided in advance and agreed upon by the employer and institution. If you have an extenuating circumstance please alert Tanya as soon as possible for options.

What does it mean when I see Pending?

Employers that have returned their pre-select/alternate lists have been listed on the homepage of Symplicity. If you see the employer listed and you see “pending”, you were not selected.
