Veterans Legal Corps Deadline Extended to 5/31

OurVeterans Legal Corps program (formerly AmeriCorps JD) has 250 slots reserved for those serving veterans and low-income communities. Veterans Legal Corps members receive a$1,200 educational award for their service and can receive outside funding up to $4,200.

It’s a bit less restrictive than the program name might suggest – generally, most positions at nonprofit organizations and/or at law school clinics working with low income clients will qualify as long as the organization can confirm that it serves the veteran community in some capacity and that they will make an effort throughout the course of your service to be involved with these efforts. This can be through any area of the law (housing, family, expungement, etc.). Please note that government positions are ineligible.

There are two ways to participate in Veterans Legal Corps:

If you have already secured a public interest opportunity at a nonprofit for this summer, they may be eligible to participate and canapply now!  Click here to review more details on eligibility requirements.

If you are still looking for an opportunity this summer, check out our list of participating organizations andrefer to our student guide to help navigate the process.

Students must apply by Friday, May 31 to be accepted into the program. This is a noncompetitive program – if your project meets the eligiblity requirements, you will be accepted and receive the educational award upon completing 300 hours of service.
