2019 Inaugural St. Louis Diversity Scholarship and Mentorship Partnership
Purpose
By providing an annual scholarship and mentorship to a first-year law student from either Saint Louis University School of Law or Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Ogletree Deakins’ St. Louis Office endeavors to support the development of the scholarship recipients, create and maintain a meaningful connection between Ogletree and the scholar, and make a positive impact on the St. Louis legal community.
Scholarship Amount
The selected scholar will receive a check in the amount of $2,500 payable within 30 days of the scholar’s selection.
Mentorship
Each scholar will be assigned a mentor for the scholarship year. Each mentor commits to meet with the scholar at least two times during the scholarship year. Support following the scholarship year, of course, will be encouraged. Scholars also will be invited to attend our associate lunch & learns to enhance their education and build additional relationships with our attorneys. Scholars will also have access to resume coaching as well as a mock interview by a member of our national recruiting team.
Scholarship Selection
The scholarship application period will begin January 18, 2019. The scholarship recipient will be selected based on pre-determined criteria, including:
- Must be a 1L student at either Saint Louis University School of Law or Washington University School of Law in St. Louis
- Academic success
- Community involvement
- An interest in Labor & Employment Law
- A 750 Word Written Essay responding to the question:
Twenty years from now, how will you measure the success of your legal career?

The scholarship selections will be made by March 8, 2019. We will publicly announce and present the scholarships to the scholar at the St. Louis Office’s Breakfast Briefing in March 2019, where the scholar can network with and meet our attorneys and Breakfast Briefing client attendees.
