We are pleased to invite you to the Midwest Human Trafficking Conference, on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at Spellman Center, Anheuser-Busch Leadership Room, Lindenwood University.
About the Conference:
The conference will bring together multidisciplinary professionals from law enforcement, the legal profession, child protective services, victim advocacy agencies, traumatic stress organizations, medical and mental health/treatment providers, youth-serving organizations, school administration, educators and school counselors, faith groups, and the public to;
Ø Gain basic understanding and knowledge of human trafficking, and the prevalence and pervasiveness of human trafficking in the St Louis Metropolitan area,
Ø Identify vulnerabilities that traffickers exploit to recruit and traffic persons, and the role and impact technology has on this process, including manipulative strategies,
Ø Recognize the neurobiological impact of trauma within relational development and growth, the ability to function in different social environments, and learn strategies and tools to successfully serve victims of trafficking,
More specifically, it will look at potential solutions based on trauma-informed and victim-centered approaches for working with youth victims of human trafficking across multiple environments. Also, the conference will provide POST certification for law enforcement and CLE certification for attorneys.
Conference Presenters:
- Opening remarks will be delivered by: Mr. Timothy Lohmar, St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney, and Howard J. Marcus, Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney with the National Security/Child Exploitation Section.
- Individual sessions will be informed by a series of keynote speakers, including: TC Cassidy, Director of Organizational Advancement, National Safe Place Network, and Debi Grebenik, Chief Learning Officer of Alia.
Vision for the Conference:
An important aim of this conference is to offer networking opportunities from all over the Midwest region. Through your participation, you can help our communities better understand that human trafficking is an ethics and human rights issue, a problem that ruins the lives of everyone it touches, an issue demanding to be recognized as a public health concern, and a matter that needs to be addressed in an active social and educational platform.
