Hey 1Ls! October 15 has come and gone and now you are permitted to seek help from Career Strategists and Peer Advisers!
Many of you might be curious about whether you should start worrying about summer opportunities now and what kinds of opportunities are available for first year law students. My answer is maybe and it depends. Some major law firms and companies will have opportunities for diverse 1L students to apply and compete for one or two paid summer positions. Often times they even have scholarships attached to them! Applications and requirements for these opportunities differ from other types of summer opportunities that you may come across. So the sooner you get started, the better position you’ll be in to compete for an interview and then hopefully get an offer. If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities please join a few of your CCD Peer Advisers for a table talk on November 2 at noon in ABH312 and a panel presentation on November 6.The peer advisers hosting these events have a received summer offers through diversity opportunities. We will talk about the application process, what to expect, who applies and answer any questions you may have about our experiences. Additionally November 6 is Diversity Week with CCD. Several employers will be on campus giving you opportunities to meet recruiters and start networking for jobs you might be interested in. I urge you to take full advantage.
Additionally, I encourage you to sign up to meet with a Career Strategist or Peer Adviser to get your resume and cover letter reviewed. In my opinion, you can’t start your job search too early!
Thanks and I hope to see some of you soon!
