YOUNG BASILE
PATENT APPRENTICESHIP
FAST TRACK YOUR PATENT CAREER
If you are a law student committed to becoming a skilled patent attorney, we invite you to apply for the Young Basile Patent Apprenticeship.
Young Basile is a dynamic, mid-sized IP firm with offices throughout the country. We represent the world’s leading technology innovators, ranging from unicorn emerging companies to global giants. Our work includes protecting cutting-edge inventions in artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, video encoding, and cloud computing.
What Is the YB Patent Apprenticeship?
The YB Patent Apprenticeship is a paid, year-round program for law students that builds core competencies in patent law, so participants can contribute in meaningful ways during law school and be better prepared for practice when they graduate. The apprenticeship is conducted remotely, enabling students from around the country to participate.
The apprenticeship includes both classroom training and closely supervised, real-world patent projects on live client matters. An experienced program director provides mentorship and one-on-one feedback on each student’s journey from trainee to practitioner.
Daniel Jang, U. of Illinois, ‘22
“The program facilitated
an interactive learning atmosphere and
provided 1:1 mentorship, which was
incredibly accommodating.”
Does the apprenticeship lead to a full-time associate position with Young Basile?
We hire students into the apprenticeship with the expectation that we will invite them to become an associate at our firm once they’ve completed their law degree. While offers of full-time employment are not guaranteed, our intention is to extend offers to third year law students that have established themselves through their work in the apprenticeship.
When is the apprenticeship offered?
The apprenticeship is a two-year program extending from the start of the 1L summer through the end of the 3L school year. With a new class of law clerks being hired each year, the apprenticeship includes both new clerks in their first year with Young Basile and more seasoned clerks in their second year with the firm. The apprenticeship includes a 2L summer associate position.
What are the requirements to apply?
