Oh the places you will go… this summer to position yourself well for 2L recruiting. Summer networking receptions and events hosted by employers are a great way to hear, see and feel how the employers operate in a more relaxed setting (most only require business casual attire!). RSVP early, as some have limited space and deadlines can sneak up on you.
Focused on public interest? these receptions can be a great opportunity. Many of the attorneys that are currently at firms may have worked at public interest or government agencies. Additionally, many attorneys you will meet at these receptions do pro bono work alongside the public interest attorneys of which you are looking to connect!
Remember, networking is a skill that improves as you gain more confidence and attend more functions. Legal markets in every geographic are generally close-knit and making connections with other members is never a bad thing so don’t forget to also check for networking opportunities through local and national bar associations.
